Patient Connected Medical Devices: Any type of device which is infusing Blood, Saline Solutions, Drugs or any other type of fluid into a patient’s Cardiovascular System typically is required to utilize some form of non-invasive air bubble sensor on the tubing or liquid level detector if fluid is in a reservoir. Should a significant amount of air be infused into a vein or artery, an air embolism can form thus becoming harmful or fatal to the patient. Introtek’s sensor products are designed to alert the device that air bubbles have been detected within a fraction of a second, thus stopping a process, while a doctor or nurse would intervene to correct the hazardous condition.

Some examples of patient-connected devices using Introtek sensors include:

Apheresis: Blood is removed from a donor and processed in a centrifuge. Individual blood components, plasma, platelets, white & red blood cells separate. The Blood Bank will take the blood components, which it requires most immediately and infuses the rest back to the donor.

Auto-Transfusion: Patient requiring Blood transfusion is infused with pre-processed Blood.

Blood Processing: Blood is removed from a patient and treated outside of the body for a certain ailment then returned to the patient. Some Blood Processing equipment is not patient-connected but still require air sensors to make sure a blood purification process is proceeding correctly.

Heart-Lung Bypass: During this process, this machine helps to circulate Blood through the Cardiovascular System while the Heart is incapacitated.

Hemodialysis: Dialysis devices take the place of diseased Kidneys by filtering waste products out of the Blood and then returning purified Blood to the patient.

Infusion Pumps: For infusing precision volumes of drugs, saline solution, pain killers, etc. into a patient’s system in both trauma and recovery situations.

Perfusion: Most commonly, the injection of fluid into a blood vessel in order to reach an organ or tissues, usually to supply nutrients and oxygen.

Rapid Blood Warming: Blood is warmed to the proper body temperature and rapidly infused into a patient with severe blood loss or trauma.

Syringe Pumps: These pumps can be part of a Medical device to help meter fluids, which are being infused into a patient’s system.

Other Industries served by Introtek include the following:

Aerospace: Air-In-Line applications on plastic, stainless steel and other metallic surfaces and Air Bubble Detector applications on various types of tubing and flow lines for determining whether air or fluid is present.

Analytical: Laboratory equipment involving fluidics, which incorporate air bubble & liquid level sensors to help automate various processes such as dispensing and liquid transfer.

Bio-Tech: Air Bubble and Liquid Level applications on equipment relating to cell growth, stem cell research, DNA research and more.

Chromatography: Or Separations Technology, utilizing Air Bubble Detectors and Liquid Level sensors on a variety of plastic and stainless steel tubing and vessels. Sensors many times are used to detect air columns running dry. A dry air column could potentially adversely affect a process or end product being produced.

Immunoassay: Fluid monitoring including air bubble sensors and liquid level detectors are commonly integrated into Immunoassay platforms, which are highly automated and cannot afford contamination by outside elements.

Pharmaceutical: Dispensing and filling machines will use Air In Line detectors and liquid level sensors to help determine that dispensing lines may have run dry or reservoirs may have run out of a particular fluid.

Process Automation: General requirements for Air Bubble Detectors and Liquid Level sensors for insuring a process is proceeding properly, also for the elimination of human error.

Semiconductor: Sensor requirements on Semiconductor equipment typically for fluid dispensing to make sure that lines or vessels are not running dry, thus helping to preserve a process.
